I got this book for Christmas, and I've almost finished reading it. (On a side note, I think I now own literally every book regarding the PotC movies, other than the young Jack Sparrow series and all the little picture books. Woohoo!) It covers all three movies, which is why it isn't in the subforum for one of the movies. Here are a few interesting bits of trivia that I thought you all might enjoy. (I'll add more as I come to them/remember them): Johnny Depp came up with the ending line of CotBP: "Bring me that horizon." Terry Rossio stated in his journal that this was his favorite line in the entire movie, and he and Ted didn't even write it! Keira mentions that there are supposed to be two years between CotBP and DMC. I think we've always assumed it was only one. So now we know! This quote from Geoffrey Rush made me laugh, and I'll explain why:
Now, we may not be a university, but I think many of the discussions and details we've noticed are quite intellectual and philosophical. We've had some deep conversations! So now I'd really love to link Geoffrey Rush to our archives so he can have a bit of a laugh. ![]() Tom Hollander states that there is absolutely nothing good about Beckett. (Sorry, Alia! ;)) To quote him, "He's horrible. The only nice thing about him is that he's great fun to play." I can believe it. Sometimes it's fun to be evil. ![]() CotBP was Giles New's first film ever. He plays Murtogg ("I blame the fish people."). His very first scene ever shot in a movie? Jack's hanging, with the bird droppings being shot onto his face. And apparently the prop guy doing it had terrific aim and hit him in the eye almost every single time. Welcome to the world of Hollywood! These are more observations that trivia, but apparently Chow Yun-Fat is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Gore said he would even have helped the crew push around the cameras if he could have. Also, Keira said that Jack Davenport is one of the funniest men she has ever met. Too bad we didn't get to see more of that in Norrington! I'm sure I'll come back with more. This is just a smattering for your reading enjoyment.

You mean Elizabeth was somehow convinced to wait two whole years to marry Will Turner? That's....I don't know, but I somehow find that a bit shocking. She doesn't seem the type to wait, or be willing to go along with what daddy says, and wait. Although, for all we know there could be a couple more failed goes at the wedding, ala Absentminded Professor style.
I think poor Geoffrey Rush has underestimated what people like to write their academic papers on. There was a woman in my Chinese dept a while back whose whole paper was comparing Disney's Mulan to the actual Ballad of Mulan. Some actors and writers are pretty well aware of all the fandom stuff that goes on, and actually visit the fanboards. I wonder who does for PotC, and if they've ever made it here...
Tom Hollander is quite entitled to his opinion (doesn't mean it's right).
No, I think that there are good things about Beckett, one just needs to look deeper. But I do have to once again lament the fact that people fail to realize that even for character who are villains, were the stories from their point of view, they wouldn't be the antagonists. "Everyone's the hero of their own story" and all that--and people are quite remarkable at justifying what they do for others, if not for themselves. It sounds like this book is a big improvement upon other books published for PotC. Of course, behind the scenes is often better done, and with a fairer eye to getting things accurate. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
