Who'd you vote for and why? Or is there someone you didn't vote for that you want to explain why you didn't vote for them? Once I post this I'm going to vote for Will and Elizabeth (how many people saw that coming from me?), because Jack is great and all...but it doesn't really feel like PotC without them--regardless of some of the changes they did make to their characters (that I really did not care for). For one thing, Elizabeth was really a main part of the first movie, I think really the central character since so much of what happened was hinged entirely on what she had done. I didn't vote for Norrington, because I just want them to let the character be in peace. He wasn't the same character in any of the three films (though a case could be made for his character in AWE being more similar in CotBP than to DMC), and I much preferred him as a Royal Navy character, that just won't work with any future films, I think. I'd love to see Governor Swann back, but without Elizabeth there...there unfortunately isn't much point in having him back. I think Cutler Beckett was pretty awesome, but as a villain, he's sort of had his time. And reusing villains is something that Disney falls back on too often. |

I voted for Davy Jones, I know he's kind of dead, but since he survived without his heart for so long and was in a state of undeadness for both films I'm not sure that's such a problem, I wasn't sure if I was going to vote at all, since I'm pretty sure most of the characters have had their arcs completed, and some had them just gone off in insane directions, where the characters weren't even the same anymore, even the ones created for the sequels changed between the end of DMC and the opening of AWE, makes it hard to care for them to come back, but with Davy, my whole reason for voting would be if they teamed him up with Jack, to fight a bigger enemy, it seemed like a cool enough idea for me to add a vote and ramble about, so I did.

I voted Tia Dalma and Gov. Swann, and for some reason I thought it's a prequel that I vote for... My reasons for those two is that then we can get to see to what extent Jack "knew" Tia and with Gov. Swann in it, we would maybe get to see a little Lizzy. I'll go work on my English grammar now... |

I chose Anamaria. I think her character was too strong in the first movie to just be dropped like she was. I wouldn't mind knowing about her past with Jack, if this turns out to be a prequel, but even if it doesn't, I'm sure she can find a good role in anything that happens later. I know I'm dreaming, but that's what I would like to see. I didn't choose anyone else, because the others don't interest me as much. I thought about Norrie, but I don't really like the idea of bringing anymore people back from the dead. It's a poor story device to begin with, and PotC has already done it twice. (Three times if you count Will) |

For my own personal satisfaction, I voted Elizabeth. Just because she's one of my absolute favorites. But I know it won't happen, and I wouldn't want it to happen if it wouldn't make any sense, which it most likely wouldn't. Her story is over. Although if they reeeally wanted to, I have no doubt they could come up with something to make it happen. But it won't. So this is just wishful thinking. For real, I voted Anamaria. I'm with you, Monkey, she was a great character and then she just up and disappeared. She was just as important and helpful as Gibbs (if not moreso, if you consider that it was her boat that brought Jack to Port Royal and started this entire love affair... I mean storyline. :D) Runner-up was Tia Dalma because she is a very interesting character that could go many different directions, but I really liked Anamaria, so she got my vote instead.  Plus the whole giant-Calypso thing was just a bit too weird.

I think the less we see of the younger Lizzy the better, since it really adds a creepy factor to Norrington, and also to Jack as well, maybe more Jack than Norrington, since Norrie didn't try to get Lizzy drunk and take advantage of her, which reminds me of that weirdness in the subtitles when Jack says "rape, pillage and plunder", and now I ramble, but my point is that prequels aren't really fun anyway, all they seem to do is ruin existing scenes by changing how we think about them, and the attempted rape scene was already creepy enough without making it more so.

With such a large field as was put up, I really shouldn't be surprised that the votes are spread out as they are, but I am still kind of surprised. I wouldn't expect a four way lead, nor would I have expected Tia Dalma to be up there--since I know there were quite a few who were weirded out by her transformation in AWE.
I agree. Although I'd be sort of hesitant to see her return in the fourth movie...just because I'd be afraid to see what they might make her into. I've just got all these great interpretations of her that I've seen now in RPing and fanfic, that I kinda like what was developed for her there. And the other thing I'd be afraid of would be her turning into either a Mary Sue, or made into a "token" female character who isn't there for any other reason than to have a few changes of costume (for selling dolls) and to get little girls interested in watching. |

I'm a little concerned about how she's portrayed too. Not only has she developed nicely in other RPs and fanfics, but since I've been RPing her for so long in other places, I almost feel like I know her. Although I would realize the movie version of her will be much different than what I imagined, I still think something in the back of my mind (and maybe my heart) would expect to see the Anamaria I created and would be a little disappointed that it wasn't her. (Yeah, I'm a psycho. I admit it.) Also, I'm afraid they're going to have her as nothing but a constantly angry, slap-happy thorn in Jack's side, and I would hate to see that happen. As far as the doll is concerned, I think that would be kind of cool. I want one.

Glad to see Anamaria -- a good strong contrast to Jack is needed and as I mentioned in another thread, he deserves a good slap in the face. Also, I like the way characters keep threading their ways in and out of all the films so far. It helps maintain some sort of continuity. I do hope if POTC4 really happens that they don't overdo the Ragetti-Pintel slapstick, which was at times painful in DMC and AWE. Edited by nulldevice, Mar 29 2009, 02:54 PM.

I voted for Anamaria and Norrington. For Norrington, I know there's no way that they could bring back the character I would really want, which would be Norrington from the first movie without him getting all scruffy and then turning into Beckett's henchman. But, then again, it's dang near impossible for him to be in the fourth movie at all, so it's just fantasy anyway, so why not vote for him? Besides, he was always the guy in the movies I really... oh, how do I describe it? Like, Jack would be the man I'd want to spend a night with, but James would be the man I'd want to spend my life with. And for Anamaria, I pretty much agree with the others who voted for her. She just disappeared for no reason. I mean, I've always stuck with my personal theory that she was eaten on Cannibal Island. But she's one of the few characters who, since she wasn't in the sequels, she still has the opportunity to be what we loved from the first movie, rather than having changed into something else in the sequels.
