I found this http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story...81-7485,00.html and other similar articles today while looking around for more PotC 4 stuff. I have to admit, I'm getting a little concerned. It's almost starting to look like a bad RP, the way Jack Sparrow's family is coming out of the woodwork.  But more seriously, do we really want two Jack Sparrows on the same screen? Okay, the last one had about 20 of them, but that was different.  But think about it, Jack Sparrow's character is larger than life anyways. He wasn't intended to be the main character in the first movie, but what ended up happening? It's all about Jack now, right? They killed off everyone except Liz and Will, and now they've dropped out of the script too. (Maybe it's because the actors don't want to do it anymore, but also, the movies are no longer about them. They're about Jack.) If they cast someone because they're looking for another character who acts like him, it's going to be too much. IMHO, there can only be one Jack. And another thing, this article: http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEwC1DzFnGGlAw says his brother's name will be Jonathan Sparrow. They can't do that. Jack is a nickname for John or Jonathan. There can't be two Jonathans in the same family. Besides, if they do that, I'll have to change my RP bio for Jack, which says that's his real name. <_< |

Hey, at least it's a guy. It'd be true bad RP/fanfic if a female relation came out. Maybe that will come though...there was that old rumor of a "Corra Sparrow" wasn't there for the last film? They could do a young girl now, but name her "Jacqueline" so that she could could share the same nickname as well. But I'm with you--I'd really rather they not introduce any more family. Part of what made Jack cool was the mystique, the fact that you didn't know a lot about him. You knew stories, but you didn't always know if they were true. Introducing us to more of his family...less mystique, and I think you hit it right on the head--less unique. And of all the people they could consider...well...I'm hoping all this is a false rumor. |

 So true! It could be worse, right?I'm really trying to reserve judgment until we have more info, but I'm getting less excited the more I hear. It was okay having the Keith Richards cameo in AWE because he literally is where Jack came from, and it was short. But having a whole story with more family? I agree with both of you guys, it ruins the mystique of who Jack Sparrow is. Even meeting his dad in the last movie didn't really mess with the mystery that is Jack Sparrow. And Monkey, you're right, it can't be Jonathan, because it would be silly to have two Johns or Jacks or whatever in the same family. I hope they're not dumb enough to not realize that. And I guess I can kind of see where Russell Brand would look like he could be related to Jack, but I am not the biggest fan of the guy, so... no thank you. |

I saw about this a few days ago, and thought to myself it may just be a joke, or some hopeful rumour from journalists with nothing real to write about, as if this is true then they're turning PotC into a TV show, first we get Jack's dad, then mid-season, I mean series, I mean... gah, we get Jack's brother, whatever next? Jack's sister waking up from her coma? I can only imagine what might happen if they try to make a fifth film, oh wait, I don't want to imagine it, as a horror like that may make my brain explode out of the pure stupidity of it all.

I didn't know anything about Russell Brand when I wrote this, but I've watched a few interviews on YouTube, and let's just say I'm not impressed. I can see where they get that his mannerisms are similar to Jack Sparrow's, but honestly, I don't think even Jack Sparrow is that bad. I was all for a fourth movie, but if this guy is in it, I'll seriously have second thoughts about going to see it. |

It could be worse, there's been rumours about the High School Musical cast getting involved, just imagine how bad that would be? "Now to learn how to sword fight, step one, step two, step *cling cling cling*, yeah, now let's dance!" Argh, the humanity!

Frankly, I would rather that than have any involvement by Brand, I find the man to be a detestable cretin who sells himself entirely on image and shock value. |

He is pretty annoying, I haven't seen him too much, due to watching so little TV, but it's pretty hard to avoid him when he appears on so much, or at least in the UK, his whole act seems to consist of looking outrageous while saying stuff like "ooh-err, missus", didn't that go away in the 60's?

Oh my, High School Musical? You were joking, or that was a false rumour, right? I really cannot STAND High School Musical. I would refuse to go and see it if they are involved. But, to hold up the other side of the argument, I really like Russell Brand, he's one of the funniest people in the UK atm, with only in my opinion Lee Evans better than him. If you watched one of his sets through properly, like watched Ponderland, maybe you'd change your mind? I don't know.

I heard that thing about Efron joining but had already decided that it had to be just a rumor before his camp came out and denied it. I'm not sure Disney would cross two of their biggest franchises like that! Whether or not you agree with Mr Brand's recent shenanigans, he does look the part of Jack's brother... |

I don't think so, he has dark, messy hair but that's it. It's not his recent actions that I dislike, it's him. I find everything about him utterly repellent. I'm fine with comedy that pushes the boundaries of good taste, I'm a big fan of people like Frankie Boyle and Russell Howard but Brand just leaves me cold. I would not watch a POTC film with him in it. |

Hm. Well, yes, I think the idea of introducing more of the family does take away the mystique of Jack Sparrow, which is a shame. I rather like not knowing where Jack came from. And I hope against hope they do not name the brother Johnathan. That's just stupid. I would say to name him some other "J" name, but the movies already have James and Joshamee. Maybe Julien. And I really don't know much about Russell Brand. I've seen him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Bedtime Stories, but he was not the main character in either. And even at that he was just an actor in a role, so I can't say what his personal comedy is like. That said, I do think he bears a resemblance to Jack. Maybe even more effeminate (if that's possible ). I mean, I don't have any great love or hate of them casting him in the role, if this is true. But it is a role I hope doesn't really exist.
