This month is national novel writing month, and I was wondering how many Parleyers were involved with this? For anyone who doesn't know what it is, on you sign up for this online, and the goal is to write a 50,000-word novel in one month--from November 1st-30th. You could say that properly, the word "international" might be better used to describe it, since anyone anywhere in the world is encouraged to try it. Technically, I'm signed up for it this month, but I have work and classes interfering with my output (there's always next year)...but is there anyone else involved with this? |

No lie, I have an idea for a novel and had no idea about all of this. Maybe I should sign up. I'm kind of busy, too, though, so I don't know if I'd have time to write the whole thing by November 30. Won't know until I try, though, right? Monkey, I would love to see what you're writing. You're a very creative writer, so I bet it's good.

I didn't find out about it until the month before it started, but it was enough time to get ready for it. As of midnight, we are one week into it and supposed to be at around 11k-12k words. I'm not saying it would be impossible to make the challenge if someone joined at this point, but hopefully, they would have a huge chunk of time designated to catching up. However, even if you didn't make the full 50,000 words by Nov. 30, you could make it a personal challenge just to get as much written as possible. Or extend your own deadline one week to see if you can do it. Like the site says, your novel will need a lot of polishing, to put it mildly, once you're finished with the challenge, but then the story will already be on paper. It's just a matter of going back and perfecting it after that. The hardest part of doing this in the beginning was stopping myself from going back and editing, but now I think I'm over that. I can think of places where I'm going to go back and expand on some things, but I'm just making mental notes of it now, and pressing on.
I appreciate the confidence. You're the second person who has asked to read it. It's such a rough draft, I'm not sure how well that's going to work. It's also turning out to be more autobiographical than I expected. No characters or situations have been written to exactly match any real person or situation. Everything is pretty sliced and diced and put back together as something a little different. But I still might want to do some editing before I let anyone read it. But, if you're just curious about what I'm doing, you can go here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/403890 Hehe, I suspect the word count will be the least of my challenges with this. Shutting up now. *waits patiently for her check from the NaNoWriMo promo department* |

As usual I didn't find out about this until over a week into November so that pretty much counts me out. It's a good idea though and I might have a NoWriMo of my own at some point soon. |

I signed up as well (way too late of course). My name is GoeFi0307 over there. I've not written that much yet, but I don't seem to get my story online. How do you upload the darn thing?

I think they turn the upload feature for the official count on 5 days before the end. Right now, you're just updating the word count at the top of the page (or you can can go to your "My NaNoWriMo" tab and do it in your "novel info" edit page, link in red to the left). For now, if you want to post parts of your novel for people to read, you can go to the "novel info" edit page and type in a summary and an excerpt of your novel. And if you're really feeling ambitious, you can create a bookcover for it too. I added you as a buddy, btw.

Congratulations Monkey! Yeah.. I didn't finish. In fact I gave up on my whole story idea about Week 3 because it was really bad. So then I started again with a different story for Week 4, and had about 20 000 words on that. Ah well, I'll try again next year. |
