I just started watching "Pushing Daisies" this season, and I love it. It's very clever and kinda quirky. A good word to describe its overall feeling would probably be whimsical. Which sounds corny, but there you go.

All of the main actors are excellent. I heard about the show because Kristin Chenoweth is one of the supporting characters, and I love her to death! I don't get to see enough of her, so this is great. All of the others are new to me, but I'm growing to love them just the same. Lee Pace as Ned the Piemaker is just so adorable. And magical. :o I just saw him in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day as well, which was excellent. Anna Friel is gorgeous and has an excellent American accent, and Chi McBride cracks me up. Ooh, and let's not forget Jim Dale, who does all the Harry Potter books on tape, is the narrator! He's got a great narrator voice.

It's an interesting premise: Ned can bring people back to life by touching them, but only for one minute or someone else dies in their place. Also, if he touches them again, they die for good. He helps a PI (Chi McBride) solve murders, and he brought his childhood sweetheart, Chuck (Anna McFriel) back from the dead, so he can't touch her. Same with his childhood pet, his golden retriever Digby. Olive (Kristin!) is in love with Ned, but she's kind of out of luck since he's desperately in love with Chuck.

I just got the first season from the library, so I'm catching up. I will warn you that some of the dead people Ned brings back to life died in semi-gruesome ways, and you get to see the effects of that when they come back to life to talk to him. But sometimes it's pretty funny.

The show is on a short hiatus right now, which could be bad. I surely hope it doesn't get cancelled. It would be great if more people started watching it, so if you'd like to join the cause (:D), it comes back on November 19. It's every Wednesday night at 8/7 central on ABC.

Yay for pie! :yay:

Oh my soul, I LOVE THAT SHOW! :yay:

It was on TV here in SA a bit ago and I watched (almost) all the episodes, right from the first episode. I loved the style of it so much and the fact that Ned can't touch Chuck is SO sad and kinda romantic.

You're saying it comes back, PG?! Woot! That's very excellent news, I was afraid they cancelled it or something. :D I really hope SA will get it soon. :yay:

Oh pretty pretty show how much I love thee. Seriously it's the prettiest show to look at, all the bright colours and just *sighs*

I absolutely adore the dialogue, the repetitions of words and the general tone of it. Makes it really fun to listen to and stops the mind from wandering.

I echo the love for Kristen Chenoweth, she really brings a lot to the show (and it doesn't hurt that they get her to sing every so often). I already knew Lee Pace from Wonderfalls (which is an equally great show from the same creator that got cancelled after one season :( ) and he's so adorable as Ned, there's such lovely chemistry between him and Anna Friel. Chi McBride is just awesome as Emerson.

Okay I may be biased slightly but I adore Digby (who often reminds me of my own Golden Retriever even though they look totally different).

Apparently the ratings aren't doing too well in the US so there's the possibility it may not make it to next season :( *goes off to cheer self up by rewatching the last few episodes*

I was afraid they'd cancelled it, too, so I'm relieved (for now). The new episode comes not next week but the week after. It's episode 6 of season 2, and they've filmed 13 episodes so far. But like NB said, ratings haven't been doing too well, so it might get cancelled before the film a full season and/or start a new season. So spread the word! Get people to watch it! It's so much fun.

And I don't know about everyone else, but I've got a banner ad for Kristin's new CD at the bottom of this thread now. She's so cute. Yay! :D

I adore this show!!! I got interested just seeing the ads for it last year when it first started, and became hooked from the first episode. Whimsical is the perfect word to describe it. That and quirky. I wasn't familiar with any of the actors before except Kristen and Swoozie Kurtz, LOL. I adore Ned, and Anna and Chi rock. The whole look of the show is so....retro or something. It uses so many 70s colors--the oranges and avocado greens and stuff. It's a wonder to behold. :D

I just love everything about it, the narration, the 'he'd been alive for 27 years, 3 months, 1 week, 2 days, and 57 minutes...' stuff, the Darling Mermaid Darlings, Ned and Chuck, Olive and Emerson., Digby, the Pie Hole (brilliant, that!). It all makes me so happy. :D I was so afraid it wouldn't see a second season after the writer's strike. Hopefully, the ratings will improve. I'd hate to see it end!

It does have a kind of retro feel to it, now that you point it out. On IMDb, they said the creator said that the show takes place in "Pushing Daisies time," so there are old-fashioned elements as well as modern stuff.

Lol, the Darling Mermaid Darlings. They like to do repetetive stuff like that. I just saw the first episode, and the travel agency that Chuck uses to go on her cruise is called the Boutique Travel Travel Boutique.

I'm in Pushing Daisies mode now. I've been watching 4 episodes of Season 1. I think I fall more in love with Ned in each episode. Him and Jim from the Office, but that's another story for another thread. ;) I don't blame Olive for being in love with him, although since I love Kristin so much, I can't help but hope that sometime, maybe far in the future, she'll find someone else to be in love with and live happily ever after.

This is one of my absolute favorite shows.

It's very Tim Burton-esque and the music often reminds me of a Danny Elfman score (like Edward Scissorhands where everything's bright and pretty in Suburbia).

Lee Pace, as Ned, is adorable. He's just that loveable socially awkward guy you want to cuddle with. And I really really admire the chemistry between him and Anna Friel, as Chuck. It's this weird sort of romance that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Thankfully they have Chi McBride (who is brilliant as Emerson Cod) to even out the lighter stuff with a dash of snark. And of course Swoosie Kurtz adds a dash of cynicism as Aunt Lilly.

And who can forget Kristen Chenowith? She is perfect for Olive (I feel bad for her at times though, because she cares so immensely for Ned but he doesn't realise it - in Bad Habits they addressed Olive's feelings for Ned which was a great move).

Ohhh and Wonderfalls is so good. I have it on DVD and it's just the most amazingly awesome show that got shot down way too soon. Which I hope doesn't happen to Pushing Daisies. I would cry if they took my Piemaker away.

I didn't even see the show, but they'd rather remake Life on Mars some more than have any original shows? this kind of thing just confuses me, even more than wondering why people relate to those in other countries so little that there's need for a remake of something which didn't need remaking.

I heard about the cancelling yesterday. I'll join you, NB.

Seriously, I saw a comment someplace about this and someone said, "Why is it always quantity (number of viewers) over quality?" And I totally agree. I mean, I know they have to get enough viewers to make it lucrative to make the show, but this was a fun, creative show that so many people love. Maybe not as many people watch it as other shows, but the people who do watch it totally love it.

They say that they want to try to make a comic book series to tie up loose ends, but it won't be the same without the actors. A movie would be nicer, which I've also heard they've been looking into.

What really makes me sad is that I recently realized that "Pushing Daisies" is probably one of the reasons I was so happy a few weeks ago. I mean, other than no job, my life is going pretty well right now, and catching up on Season 1 of PD was just the cherry on top that made my happy sundae complete. But no more.

At least we still have something like 6 or 7 more episodes to look forward to, right? (Although the last one ends in a cliffhanger! Which is cruel when you know that nothing else is coming!)

*sigh*

Steven linked me to the news of this earlier, which of course didn't rock my world, not even in the least. Bravo, TV execs who love to bring us filth and rob us of the underrated yet awesome shows.

It's things like this which makes me a tad cynical.

TV shows continued in comic book form aren't so bad, both Buffy and Angel have continued on from show continuity, I don't know if any other shows have tried to continue on from the end of the show, I know there's been prequels to 24 stories, and even X-Files and CSI have had comics, only read X-Files out of all of those, and a few of the Angel season six ones, sure none of them have the actors, although if you have the writers, with the same quality of dialogue, it's still a good thing, and if the art is good enough then they'll look pretty close to the actors anyway, I don't know why I rambled so much, I just think that comics are a good way to continue things which wouldn't be continued any other way. :D

It's not just the look of the show though, there's something about the way the actors play the roles, the way the dialogue sounds and just...everything, that might not be captured properly in a comic book. Not that I'm putting down comics but it just seems like it wouldn't capture the spirit of the show. A movie on the other hand, be it theatrical (hey I can dream) or a direct-to-DVD, would be preferable.

I recently caught two episodes of this, and I thought it was pretty funny and very cleverly written. I'd like to go back and start at the beginning, but I know it's going to aggravate me to get to the end, and whoops, canceled.

If I do find the time to catch up on all of it, I'd rather they not continue it via comic book. Like NB, I think a movie, or direct to DVD would be preferable. I mean, I do enjoy comic books--I liked reading Iron Man ones, and Batman...but I just don't find comic books as satisfying as other mediums. I'd rather read a book over a comic book, if it really comes down to it.

I totally and completely agree with you, NB. The whole reason I started watching this show was because Kristin Chenoweth is in it. She's a great actress, and I don't get to see her as often as I'd like. As I've watched the show, though, I've come to love all the other actors just as much. And a comic book just wouldn't be the same. You wouldn't have Lee Pace's adorable awkwardness, or Anna Friel's perky positivity, or Chi McBride's sarcastic delivery, or Kristin Chenoweth's bubbliness and perkiness. You can capture the story in a comic book, and even the actors' likenesses, but you can't capture the acting.

I will miss the show, but the good news is that they changed the ending so that it won't be a cliffhanger. So at least we'll get some sort of closure.
