So, I know it's been brought up many times before how there are lots of similarities between our beloved Pirates movies and the original Star Wars trilogy. However, this picture slideshow brings together all of those similarities and more. It was really interesting to read, and some of them made me laugh outloud. (Like Tia Dalma...) Anyway, apologies if the link takes you to the middle. I don't know how to fix it. Just get yourself back to the beginning and enjoy!

That was pretty interesting, and a little unsettling. LOL

If you go to the internet address and change the 12 on the end to a 0 (so that it says level10=0), it will take you right to the first slide.

I wondered if that would work, but I guess I was too lazy to find out if it would. Thanks, Lisa! I know, it's almost a little creepy how well they match. Weird...

That was a pretty interesting slide show. I had noticed a few things, but mostly just the similarites to Han and Luke. Actually I was just talking about this the other day with a friend at school. And they were saying that there should be a prequel about Jack becoming a pirate. Then I said something like, "Hey! They could make a whole trilogy of prequels! And it'd be just like Star Wars." Anyone think they might actually do that?

I made a thread about this on IMDb ages ago, only my writing was better, and I think how the main pirate gets trapped at the end of the second one and needs a big daring mission to free him at the start of the third is one thing, plus both end up in lots of sand as well, and all because neither of them paid up what they owed, which would make the Kraken the POTC version of Boba Fett, we all knew that thing was cool. :P

A whole trilogy of PotC prequels? I suppose that it's possible. It'd have to be profitable first off...but if they'd do one, I think they'd just like to start off with one prequel first to see if it is feasible--if they could get enough money for it.

It also depend on how that would be done--would they have Johnny Depp reprise his role? Or would they cast a younger actor (depending on how prequel they go)?

In the case of the second of those at least, they'd probably start off with just one, and if the money they got for it was good...then I could see them them doing it.

Visually though...I'd have to say that looking into the gaping maw of the Kraken...it looked a bit more like one was about to enter the Sarlaac (or Saarlac...can't remember how it's supposed to be spelled). ;)

Me and my friends were noting the ways in which Pirates and Star Wars were similar as soon as we saw Dead Man's Chest. Obviously the Han-Jack connection is the most obvious thing, but I was always a big fan of Barbossa being Lando, and moreso, Pintel being R2-D2.

We also have discussed what a prequel trilogy for Pirates might look like. We were thinking something along the lines of the whole Davy Jones saga thing for the first film, and then Jack's becoming a pirate/betraying Beckett in the second (along with whatever Davy Jones stuff would fit in), and then the third would be the whole Pearl mutiny and the treasure of Cortez and all, leading nicely into Curse of the Black Pearl.

I don't know if that'd really work all that well, but hey, we won't know till they make them. Personally, I'd really like to see a Davy Jones movie.
