I finished it yesterday (yes, I know, lame, especially since I got it the night it was released, but I had other things to do). * Spoiler: click to toggle *I can't believe that this is the end of it though...that in and of itself is very sad. It was very fun at the least, to see the number of people who came to the Yule Ball (that's what Borders was calling it's midnight release party), so many people turned out for the final one, it was nice to see it got that sort of send off.

That is rather strange to be calling it a Yule Ball. Mine was called... I think 'Grand Hallows Ball', or something along those lines. Not Yule, at any rate. I liked mine, there were lots of people dressed up, but my frined, although he had no costume, beat everyone prop-wise with the Lucius Malfoy walking stick. |

Yeah, my friends and I settled on Borders as our final choice for the midnight stuff. Barnes 'n' Noble was just too crowded (they were at fire capacity PLUS had a line outside going from the BN to the doors of Kohls [at least a quarter mile]).... Plus, we ended up getting all the cool stuff... Our Borders is in the mall, and as the party started at 9:30, whereas the mall closes at 9, we had the whole mall to ourselves. They had a small stage set up where we did a spelling bee, a trivia contest, a costume contest (some guy actually put on a skirt and came as the guy from Goblet of Fire who liked the breeze! LOL), and of course the really fun obligatory Great Snape Debate. The Great Snape Debate was hilariously fun; there were two teams on stage (Friend or Foe) plus the audience were allowed to jump in to comment.... Well, the Foe side only had like two people on the team, and then like five or six on the Friend side. I wish I could talk to the Foe people now that we've all read the book--it was rather obvious from the debate that the Friend side won; I bet the Foe people are slapping their foreheads now! We also had our gypsy troupe from the KC Ren Fest out performing in the main walkway of the mall (our mall is airy and open in the middle, with walkways and what-not). They did their bellydancing routines (including the HOT male dancers, WOOT!), had guys on stilts, had a juggler/harpist, a fortune teller, and what-not. We had a lady dressed up as Moaning Myrtle (and dang, she did a good job!) who roamed around, randomly asking people a trivia question, and if you got it right, you got a cool glowstick (I haven't used mine yet). Interestingly, the question I got asked pertained to my second-favorite character, Lockhart, so that was cool (my absolute favorite, of course, is Snape). It's too bad this is the last time we'll all ever do this, unless we can manage to raise enough hype when the encyclopedia is eventually published. I only ever got to experience two book releases for HP; I only read the books for the first time in early '04, so the first five had already come out. At least we still have two more movies to come (and gosh, those are gonna be intense!), and the theme park thing, too. Joy |

Well, I think, like most people here, I really enjoyed the book. It was great! Let's see, what do I need to say? * Spoiler: click to toggle *That was officially very long, and I think I'll stop now. Maybe I'll come back if I think of more. Wait no! One more thing must be said. Spoiler: click to toggle

The book was so amazing.. I am so sad that it is over though... and there are some things that deeply sadden me especially some of the deaths... and then on the other hand there are some things that greatly pleased me... I had to say I told you so to about 50 people who didn't agree with me on this one certain issue that I knew I was right about... HA HA! Even though the over all outcome of it is very depressing to me. I am re reading the entire series now! And starting over I almost feel like I did back at the beginning oh many many years ago...

I understand how it can be odd that they are holding it at the wrong time of year, but I really had no issues with it--it tied in well with the books, and that was the purpose for it. This way as well, when they put fliers out for it--they said that you could come in your best dress and stuff, and at least in my area people took advantage of that--they came in old prom dresses and such. I thought the Great Snape Debate out where I was could have been done a tad better--no one could really hear what the reasons were that others were saying, since the store was just too crowded, noisy and loud to hear those things, and as a result I know several people just ended up repeating previous reasons that others did in that. Though in my area, while the Pro-Snape people outnumbered the Con-Snape people, there were a fair number for both. My friend argued Snape as a villain. * Spoiler: click to toggle *Joy--your Boarders party sounded to be much the same as ours--did you guys have an art contest as well? My sister and I ended up collaborating on an art piece for it, since I put the image up elsewhere I figure I'd show you guys too. She and I had previously decided that we wanted to work together to make "signs" for stores and stuff--like make up funny signs, or do some for Halloween, but when we saw their art contest flier we changed our minds and did a sign for one of the shops in Diagon Alley--"Quality Quidditch Supplies." ![]() It's out of focus I know, but it reads as, "Quality Quidditch Supplies *brooms ----- robes* accessories & more --Diagon Alley--" |

As far as I could tell, we didn't have an art contest. Of course, while we were nicely spread out in the mall, outside of the store, it was still pretty packed and difficult to keep track of all the different activities going on. Joy |

Ok, not gonna lie...I'm posting without reading the entire thread *gasp* But...to whom does this (* JKR has said "There is a character who does manage, in desperate circumstances, to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare...") apply? I've read the book, but can't remember who this is... Any help to be had? EDIT: Never mind - PG's post kinda helped. I don't feel quite so...unobservant anymore.

Yeah, as I mentioned, that made me sad as well, but I read in a chat transcript on Mugglenet that someone asked her about that, and she just said that the story changed. So now we'll never know, I guess.
