| What mark did Jack leave on Beckett? | |

Forgive me. I could have missed this between my angered feelings during AWE. But as far as I know and remember, the issue of "what mark did he leave on you?" was not resolved. We know that Jack and Beckett have a past, and we know that Beckett branded Jack with his pirate P. But what mark did Jack leave on Beckett? ANd what, exactly, is their past? Is it all up to our imaginations? This was so foreshadowed in DMC, I was surprised not to have it answered. What do you think? Why do you think it was never resolved? |

My theory is that Jack gave Beckett VD. Yup, that's what I'm going with.
But, no, it was never answered in the movie. *grumbles* My thought is that it was probably in a deleted scene that was not needed to tell the story and they needed to cut for time constraints, but that's just a guess. I don't really know. |

You may say that! ![]() I was also very pissed when I noticed they hadn't given an answer... mmm... But maybe it's better to leave us in the dark, instead of a lame excuse as an answer. At least we can give free rein to our sick/twisted imaginations now

That's my theory, and I'm sticking with it. No, really, I have no idea. And it really pisses me off that the writers didn't give us even a clue about what happened. Mostly because I just can't come up with a decent theory myself. |

Yeah, that's the one thing I would have really liked to have known... Maybe it was in a scene later cut (around when Jack and Beckett are in Beckett's cabin?), and we'll find out when the DVD comes out? *Looks hopeful* |

Yeah, it really pisses me off too. I mean I had guessed the whole Tia is Calypso and therefore the one that Davy had been betrayed by prior to the film, so the real mystery I wanted solved was this one... especially because they foreshadowed it A LOT. Like.. Beckett swinging the "P" and looking unreadable, cut to Jack fingering his "P" brand. Hmmm. We can only hope for the DVD. |

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/362160...h+age_scale%3A5 Yup, that's totally the mark Jack left on Beckett. Um-hm. *whistles innocently* |

Ok that's random. Really random. But it could work. I still go with the other cartoon that people have mentioned already but not directly. Or we could go a whole new way. Who says he marked Beckett's physical body? Or even marked anything of his? Maybe he stole something valuable or ruined some diabolical business plan. Or we could just say he left an impression on Beckett with his wacky personality and charm. There are too many possiblilties. |

Whatever it was, it was serious because as CJS points out what Beckett wants most (even more than money!) is to see Jack dead. Hmm, DJ wants Calypso dead because she broke his heart. Perhaps indeed Beckett wants Jack dead 'cause Jack broke his heart, too. I don't know why this amuses me so. Maybe because I can so see Johnny and Tom H. concocting this hilarious backstory between them.

I was starting to think that when I watched it earlier today. Seems very very possible. I'd considered something like Alia's theory (that Jack eunuchised Beckett, if eunuchised is a word) but breaking his heart seems to be the right kind of tiwsted answer that you'd get in this film. |

Looking at Beckett's extremely -almost ridiculous- dramatic ending I would say there must be a very, very nasty story to this man. I've considered Beckett a very bitter, deeply humiliated man from the very beginning and I can not deny I too have had my twisted suspicions  Don't exactly know why but I feel he must be a victim of child abuse or something. I do not blame Jack for that (although the P also could stand for 'pedophile' :P) but the one thing I keep thinking about is that Beckett is deeply hurt by Jack somehow. Like many others ofcourse, but in his case more personal. A broken heart, likely. Perhaps Jack once used his charms on him as well to secure his personal safety and Beckett fell for it? Spared him his punishment but then found out he was mislead and therefor branded Jack as a pirate after all? I also keep in mind that Jack asks Beckett why Elisabeth would be important to hím. As in the meaning: You're gay, why would you want her?! |

I was on Ted and Terry's site wordplayer poking around, and it appears there was a cut scene with Jack and Becketts backstory that was cut for time... I guess we can only hope its on the DVD. Clearly Jack did something terrible to Beckett... we've brought up quite a few good ones here, but I still have no idea. I wish it wasnt cut. It was such a burning question from DMC.

It's too bad that scene was cut. It would provide the much needed information on the entire relationship between Beckett and Jack. I hope they include it on the DVD too. It's only fair that they do, since Beckett's line about both of them leaving marks on each other was included in the second movie. These questions need answers! |

I think they should release a director's cut version of this movie, so we can see all of it and have everything answered. It would include this scene as well as the one where Gov. Swann finds out about the heart, and anything else they left out. Some of this is pretty important stuff. I don't care if it's four hours long. I'd watch it. |
