I've been listening to the Fratellis a lot lately. I really like them and while they generally 'borrow' a lot of their sound from various bands over the last forty years they also remind me of someone specific. I couldn't put my finger on it and then my dad said it. They are like a modern day version of the Kinks. This is real guilty pleasure territory but I love Lily Allen. She is chav-tastic but I think her songs are catchy and lyrically she's brilliant. Will |

My musical tastes are so scattered, it's incredible. Everyone is always amazed at how I can like such a wide variety of music. Rock on, Ditty! I totally agree, MCR is one of my favorite bands, and I'm going to see them in a two weeks myself! Can't wait! I love their music, but what really got my attention turned to them was their music videos. They're so artistic and they all tell a story. The only one I don't like is "Famous Last Words," which is a shame, because I really love the song. But all their other videos are amazing. I also love Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas solo. They are awesome. I think Rob Thomas is somehow tuned into my soul, because all of the songs he writes are completely true about me. And his solo "Streetcorner Symphony" is my favorite - the first line alone puts a smile on my face every time: "It's morning, I wake up/The taste of summer sweetness on my mind." Beautiful. I love a lot of classic rock bands, like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Styx, Journey, Kansas, etc.. I grew up listening to that stuff, because it's what was popular when my parents were high school and college aged. I actually got to see Journey in concert a few years ago (wow, FIVE years ago, I feel old now), and they rocked. And 80's pop. Yes, I love it. Nearly any and all of it. Again, that was what was current and popular when I was growing up, so it reminds me of my childhood. Also, I adore Nat King Cole. Very old fashioned, I know. But there's just something about his voice - it's so gentle and kind. And his songs are very sweet. He melts my heart. And lately it's been a lot of reggae, like Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Damien Marley, and so on, and also a lot of Jimmy Buffett and The Beach Boys. I'm so ready for summer I could scream, and this stuff puts me in the mood for it. I be jammin', man, and totally relaxed. Far out, dudes.

I don't think that I have 1 group that I love more then the others. I love groups like Bone Thugs N Harmony, Barenaked Ladies, Pink Floyd, Queen, Old school Gansta Rap like Snoop, Dre, Tupac, Biggie. I prefer hip hop and Rap over most other music though I do like it all, I suppose I would have to say Eminem is my favorite Rapper of all time. Unlike other Rappers he is white, so he has to be good to go anywhere in the business. He is unique and raps about things that has happened to him in his life and being Shady and doing drugs and I think he is just unique. I think he is AMAZING!!! |

Watching Dexter (with its heavy Cuban influence) made me listen to the Buena Vista Social Club again. Great music, I remember listening to it when I was working at a liquor store. I was just out the back doing paperwork and smoking cigarettes but with that music you could just close your eyes and you were in a cafe in Central America. It's great when music can do that. For those that don't know the Buena Vista Social Club, here is the Wikipedia entry. It's wonderful music made by some of the same people that played back in its heyday. If I can play that well in my 70s, 80s or 90s I'll be very happy. Will |

I've been into ska-punk for about five years now and have been to see Reel Big Fish three times in one year <3 Muchos Luffos to those guys for taking so extortionate pain and making a kick-a$$ song out of it. Yes, the dollar signs were subtley used as a pun for making money at the same time. They can also make a good song out of mediocre pain... Also went to see The Feeling Live in Delamere Forest a couple of months ago. That was cool, I wore a bright yellow dress and green wellies. Very fashionable at the moment because of the floods in England I believe. I got so drunk on rum and coke. Didn't really like the supporting band though. Ghosts. I bounced around the crowd to pass the time when they were on stage trying to prep up the audience X3 |

As much as I don't want to like either of them I have developed a liking for Amy Winehouse and the Babyshambles' song Deliver. Amy Winehouse has one of the most amazing voices I've heard this decade. Whatever shambles her personal life may be in she's a fantastic singer. Pete Doherty seems to be the junkie idiot of his time. There's always one and there are those that survive it, there are those that don't but I never understood the fuss made over this strangely clad, smacked up tramp....until now. Deliver is just so catchy with a sing along chorus, I really look forward to this coming on the radio at work. Will |

I've recently discovered a fairly obscure (well, at least for me here in the US) UK band called The Hoosiers. I can't seem to find any of their stuff available for Americans! Not even on iTunes! And that makes me sad.
I don't know how popular they are over there, but they need to get their booties over here some so we can all love them.

Two other groups which I adore are Slut and Cabaret Kiki. Slut is a German indie band whom I discovered while looking up The Threepenny Opera on YouTube. They have a melodic alternative style and their songs are easily able to be stuck in one's head. I had "Time Is Not A Remedy" in there for a few days. Cabaret Kiki was recommended to me because of my love for Cabaret. They sound as though they stepped out of a Berlin nightclub circa 1930. It's a loungy sultry mix of jazz and swing. ("Seven Ways" is such example). |

Wow, thanks, Will! That's made my day! Thirty bucks, though... *sigh* What we pay for our vices... I wonder if iTunes will offer it once the import becomes available... |

I've gotten into a wierd Japanese/European obsession. Don't know why. Part of it means I listen to alot of messed up music nowadays. The most addicting song so far is (apparently) a song by t.A.T.u. and Rammstein called Ist Das Gut. I don't even know if it's actually by the two of them, but it's of no matter. Been listening to it alot. |
