Music and bands that you really like.; Who, what and why?

I really like a Canadian punk rock band called The Headstones. They broke up a couple of years back but were around for well over a decade and produced some really good songs. The lead singer, Hugh Dillon played Joe Dick in the film Hard Core Logo. That film also contained a character called Billy Tallent from which a not so brilliant Canadian band got their name.

I'm a big Tenacious D fan, they rock so much, second favourite has to be Rage Against The Machine, I'm still hoping one day they'll join up again, then Nine Inch Nails and Muse, not sure on making it top five, it's probably Incubus I think.

System of a Down rock, and Metallica, their early stuff kicks ass, but the live one with the orchestra is one of the best albums I've heard.

Adding to my own, Tool, weird and dark but that's just me, got to go with Anthrax too, both old and new, so many classics there.

Can people please add a little more than just a list of bands? That completely defeats the purpose of a thread like this. We could just look at your profile for that. Explain what you like about the band, how you got into them, maybe a favourite song, a bit of trivia. Otherwise this might as well be in Liar's Dice.

I'm a metalhead really, anything loud and capable of destroying braincells, but I think my favourite hard metallers are Killswitch Engage, they have more positive lyrics and can seriously carry a melody, and in contrast I also like Slipknot who at times are the metal version of jazz, nine guys don't always create fusion, but they sure wake me up and I get a sick kick out of the of the lyrics sometimes, especially "Everything Ends", I'd tell the story behind that but if I get it wrong I'll sound evil.

I remember my first real favorite band was Guns N Roses. Paradise City was like, the bomb.

And then Axl became the biggest loser in the music buisness and everyone in the band became washed up.

My favorite band of all-time is Nirvana. They have been ever since I first bought Nevermind when I was 12.

And then Kurt killed himself and we never heard from Krist again.

Currently, the only favorite band of mine that is currently still trucking is Aerosmith. For once, one of my favorite bands hasnt killed themselves yet. They've come close, but they're still goin'. So yay.

The Sex Pistols. I wasn't born until 1984 and yet I loved the music and the attitude with a passion. As a teenager I was quite well known around town for my liberty spikes and black leather jacket with The SEX PISTOLS emblazoned across the back in safety pins. Anarchy in the UK is just a brilliant song despite having the worst 'rhyme' in the history of the English language:
'I am an antichrist,
I am an anarchist.'

Ah, I missed that period too, same year of birth, but they did do some awesome songs which have stood the test of time, Sid Vicious doing "My Way" is one the greatest songs there is, as for "Anarchy", that's cool but I wish it wasn't covered, to date I've heard two covers of it, one by Megadeth and one by Motley Crue, both changing it to Anarchy in the USA, how original can you get? someone should take an American song and change it so it's British, see how they like it then.

Guns N' Roses, they rock so much, Appetite for Destruction is a classic album, and Use Your Illusion is a good one too, varied as it is two albums, but there's still good stuff there, I'm eagerly awaiting March since that's when The Chinese Conspiracy is supposed to be coming out, only taken about fifteen years but supposedly it really is coming out this time, looking forward to it since it's supposed to have a much more darker sound to it, a bit like Nine Inch Nails I've heard, and they kick ass so Axl should come up with the goods, chances of him beating NIN are impossible, but I like that kind of music, the closest other band to that style is 30 Seconds to Mars who aren't as heavy as that but I find them so addictive, I've listened to them so much over the last year or two.

I love their punk cabaret sound - I own three of their CDs and I love each one. There's something about Amanda Palmer's voice that just makes it so beautiful and unique.

Andrew Bird
I actually was reccommended Andrew Bird by someone on another forum I visit. His sound is sort of Cabaret-ish, bluegrass, rockabilly, swing, old-timey. I have his Thrills and Oh! Granduer! albums, and they're both fantastic. So far, my favorite songs are "Glass Figurine" and "Candy Shop".

Raul Esparza
Unless you're a Broadway/musical/theatre geek like me, you probably have no idea who Raul Esparza is. Anyways, he's a very talented performer and he's got an AMAZING voice - it's got this intensity to it ... it just blows you away. I'm saving up money to see him in COMPANY on Broadway - and I own two of the cast recordings he's on - tick, tick...BOOM! and Taboo [which I just got today, because my friend sent to me].

Having just spent a week with my dad I've been listening to a lot of music again. Flamenco is wonderful, it's a very passionate type of music and not the easiest style to play. I've also been listening to a lot of rock and roll and blues. I left my Muddy Waters CD with my dad because he liked it so much and now I'm listening to Bluesbreakers (John Mayall with Eric Clapton), you just can't not love Eric.

Also can I please ask again that people don't just list bands or music. That is what your profile is for. It's not an interesting read and just listing them doesn't expain what you like about them or why you like them. If people just write a list from now on it will be reported as spam.
